encountered something new during a recent hotel stay, and I wanted to hear what y’all thought about it.
At a hotel in Italy, I received my usual check-in keycard holder with the name of the hotel on it, but there was no keycard. Instead, there was a four-digit code printed right next to the room number.
The hotel generated the code.

In order to get into the room, all you had to do was input the code onto the keypad outside the room.

I have several issues with this, all of them involving safety concerns.
- I don’t know how often the hotel changes the code. Hopefully, it is with every guest check-in, but who knows if this actually happens.
- I did not choose the code, so in order to remember it, I either had to write it down or keep the printed information.
- If I lose or drop the printed sleeve, anyone could get into my room at the hotel.
I mentioned my concerns to the front desk staff and their response was to lock the door from the inside once I was in the room.
What do you think about this?

I’m fine with codes. But they should be written on a separate card from the room number, and neither should have your name on it
