I’m rusty.
Packing used to be so easy since I did it so often. I knew exactly what I needed and had the non-clothing items in a separate closet ready to grab-n-go.
That’s not the case anymore.
I have forgotten how and what to pack and as I get ready to go on my first multi-day trip in more than 16 months, it is a skill I need to relearn.
How many outfits do I need? What shoes are the most comfortable? Do I need a hat? What about sunscreen? Do hotels still have hair dryers? How many masks to I need and do I coordinate them with my outfits? Sanitizing wipes or gel? What goes in my carryon?
These are all questions that are spinning around in my head. As I think of something, I am writing it down on one of the most specific packing lists I have ever used.
I used to just list general things like toiletries, makeup, socks, underwear, shirts, shorts, pajamas, shoes, etc. Now I am writing down specifics so I remember everything.
What also makes this trip different than all others is there is more involved than just picking out which clothes to take.
I need to make sure they fit.
Last weekend I tried on every pair of pants in my closet and looked at every shirt and tried on what I have not recently worn.
I now have three garbage bags full of things that did not fit quite right.
Time to go shopping.
