One big disadvantage of traveling solo sometimes is I can’t always do what I want to do because I’m just one person.
Many tours require a minimum of two people for them to run. Sometimes, when I sign up as a single, I get the dreaded email that says something like:
“You are the first person to sign up for this excursion and we require a minimum of two people. We will let you know when someone else registers, and if not, you will receive a full refund.”
Yikes. I want to get excited about whatever I signed up for, but I don’t want to get too excited in case it doesn’t happen. Then I wait.
Most times, it has worked out for me. Since I often plan activities weeks in advance, someone else usually signs up and the tour happens. Yay!
That was not the case for me this time in Zagreb. I signed up for a food tour and received the dreaded email. I checked back again a few days before I left the USA, and still nobody had signed up. The day before the scheduled departure, I found out the tour was canceled, leaving me with an unplanned free evening.
Oh well.
